St. Martin de Porres Marianist School has concluded its thirteenth year, and the 2016-2017 school year was a huge success with 100% of our graduates off to premier Catholic high schools on Long Island. All of us have grown in Wisdom, Faith and Knowledge. All uniform items need to be purchased through IDEAL Uniform Company, located at 175 Rockaway Avenue in Valley Stream. The school shoe does not have to be purchased at a particular store but please refer to the school website to see the type of shoe that is required. Gym sneakers must be modest.
First Days of School
Pre-K and Kindergarten: Parents will receive information regarding orientation which will be held on September 7th or 8th. The first day of school for pre-k and kindergarten is Monday, September 11, 2017.
Grades 1-8: The 2017-2018 school year will begin on Wednesday, September 6, 2017. Students should arrive at school by 8:00 am and will be dismissed from school at 12:00 pm on this day only. All other school days of the year will run from 8:15 am through 3:30 pm. Please note this earlier start time. We will begin our day at 8:15 am. Any student arriving after 8:15 am will be considered late and must go to the Main Office to obtain a late pass.
Physical and Dental Cards
All students are required to have their most recent dental, physical, and health history information on file with the health office by the first day of school. If possible please fax them to the Main Office, (516 483-4138) over the summer.
The school supply list for the 2017-2018 school year can be found on our school website under the Parents News tab. Please adhere to the supply list to ensure a smooth transition to the new school year.
Required Summer Work
Students entering grades K-5: parents received the Summer Bridge Book and information on the required summer reading. The Bridge Book and reading assignments need to be returned by your child to his/her teacher in September.
Students entering grades 6-8: please go to the school’s website, www.stmartinmarianist.org for the Summer Reading List for 2017-2018 which can be found under the Parents News tab in the Forms section.
School Calendar/Student Handbook A school calendar and student handbook will be mailed home in August. It will also be available on our school website.
Catholic High School Entrance Exam
All parents who have a child entering 8th grade this September need to purchase a Barron’s COOP/HSPT/TACHS book, which is available from Amazon or Barnes and Nobles. The students must work on this book in July and August. This will help them prepare for the Catholic High School Entrance Exam in October 2017.
Students entering grades 6 and 7 are strongly encouraged to purchase a COOP/HSPT/TACHS book to begin their preparation for the Catholic High School Entrance Exam.
Registration for 2018-2019
Due to an increase in early enrollment over the past two years we have begun to register new students for the 2018-19 school year. If you know of any families who are interested in sending their child to St. Martin de Porres Marianist School for pre-kindergarten through first grade for the 2018-19 school year, please have them call the Main Office. The office will be open every weekday in the summer from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, (except July 4th and August 15th) to assist with any needs.
