It has been quite a busy week since last Monday. Starting on Monday, we celebrated our annual St. Martin’s Day. We began with Mass and continued back to school where all classes created a banner in dedication to the classroom patron saint. We then paraded around the block of the school led by the Chaminade Piping Band. We then circled the field and were serenaded by the Pipe Band, our SMMS Gold Band and the Tin Whistle Club. We watched the 5th grade launch their homemade bottle rockets. All of the grades were treated to performances by the Chaminade Jazz Band, Chaminade Chamber Emsemble, KMHS Drama Club and KMHS Firebird Swing. We rounded out the performances with a performance of the 5th grade chorus under the direction of Ms. Placid leading us in some of our favorite songs of praise, including our school song, Above All Things.
We also had our annual Spelling Bee. Representatives from grades 4 through 8 were put to the test in front of the school to prove they are the best speller at SMMS. It was a hard fought competition, but in the end the victor was Christian Gray followed closely by Michael O’Grady. Congratulations to all of the participants.
We’ll finish off this post with our Veterans’ Day celebration. On Monday, we took time out of our school day to honor our nation’s veterans. We were honored to have some veterans from the local area to represent the different branches of the armed services. We sang patriotic songs and waved our flags, proud to honor our country and those who faithfully serve it. To the veterans of our SMMS families, we are grateful for all you do! God bless America!
